Job Description

Our client is a boutique provider of consulting and technical services to the insurance industry. We specialize in assessing damage and providing expert opinions on claims related to mechanical systems and equipment. Our mission is to deliver accurate, timely, and cost-effective solutions to our clients.

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will provide expert consulting services for insurance claims involving mechanical systems and equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex information effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Damage Assessment: Conduct thorough site inspections to assess damage to mechanical systems and equipment caused by various perils, including fire, water, wind, and mechanical failure.
  • Technical Analysis: Analyze the cause and extent of damage to mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, machinery, and industrial equipment.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed reports outlining the findings of your assessments, including the scope of damage, necessary repairs or replacements, and associated costs. Provide clear and concise documentation for insurance claims.
  • Client Interaction: Communicate effectively with insurance adjusters, policyholders, contractors, and other stakeholders. Provide expert opinions and technical guidance throughout the claims process.
  • Cost Estimation: Develop accurate cost estimates for repairs or replacements based on industry standards and best practices. Utilize relevant software and tools to support your estimations.
  • Compliance: Ensure all assessments and reports comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Continual Learning: Stay current with developments in mechanical engineering, building codes, and insurance industry practices. Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Field Work: Travel to various locations for site inspections and assessments as required. Conduct on-site evaluations under varying conditions.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in relevant areas are a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on damage assessment and repair of mechanical systems. Experience in the insurance industry or forensic engineering is highly desirable.
  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certifications preferred. Additional certifications related to damage assessment or insurance claims are a plus.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in mechanical systems design, analysis, and repair. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Software: Proficiency in industry-standard software for mechanical engineering and cost estimation (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, RSMeans).
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems, building codes, and insurance claims processes. Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight trips as necessary.
