Position Overview:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Building Consultant to join our team. This role focuses on providing expert consulting services to the insurance claims industry. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, an in-depth understanding of building construction and repair, and the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Damage Assessment: Conduct detailed site inspections to assess structural damage and other building-related issues resulting from various perils (e.g., fire, flood, wind).
- Estimating and Reporting: Prepare detailed repair and reconstruction estimates using industry-standard software. Provide clear, concise, and accurate reports to clients, outlining the scope of damage, necessary repairs, and associated costs.
- Client Interaction: Serve as a liaison between insurance adjusters, property owners, contractors, and other stakeholders. Provide expert advice and support throughout the claims process.
- Technical Expertise: Utilize extensive knowledge of building materials, construction methods, and regulatory requirements to inform assessments and recommendations.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all consulting activities are performed in accordance with company standards, industry best practices, and client requirements.
- Project Management: Oversee repair and reconstruction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of all inspections, communications, and work performed. Ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and filed appropriately.
- Training and Development: Stay current with industry developments and participate in ongoing training opportunities. Share knowledge and best practices with colleagues and clients.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in building construction, consulting, or insurance claims. Experience with damage assessment and repair cost estimating is essential.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), Associate in Claims (AIC), or similar are preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., Xactimate, RSMeans). Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of building codes, construction methods, and insurance claims processes.
- Travel: Willingness to travel as required for site inspections and client meetings.
