Job Interviews Are Just First Dates in Disguise

Job interviews and first dates? Pretty much the same thing. You both dress up, try to impress the other person, and pretend you don’t have any weird quirks. Spoiler alert: We all have them.

Here’s how your job interview compares to your first date:

1. "Tell me about yourself."

Job Interview: “Well, I’m a hard worker, I love team collaboration, and I’m detail-oriented…”
First Date: “Well, I’m really into hiking, I love a good brunch, and I’m super chill!”

2. "Why do you want to work here?"

Job Interview: “I’m excited about the company’s mission and I’m really looking forward to growing within the team.”
First Date: “You seem like a really cool person and I love your taste in restaurants. Also, your dog is super cute.”

3. "Where do you see yourself in five years?"

Job Interview: “I see myself continuing to grow with the company and taking on more leadership opportunities.”
First Date: “I see myself living in a cozy house, hopefully with a partner who shares my love for dogs, and of course, lots of travel!”

4. "We’ll be in touch."

Job Interview: “We’ll review all the candidates and get back to you by the end of the week.”
First Date: “I had a great time, I’ll let you know if I’d like to hang out again soon.”

Reality Check: In both cases, you’ll probably never hear from them again. If job interviews were like dating apps, we’d all be ghosted. But hey, at least you’ll get a free coffee out of it.
